In the context of the comic strip, one of the characteristics of the creativity of Enrique Breccia is his tendency to work in cycles. It is difficult to imagine otherwise in the case of an artist who draws both psychologically and physically on the expressions and impressions of daily life. Indeed, a commitment to social and cultural issues is clearly evident, and is often the inspiration for his work. His subjects are often complex, but Breccia is not an artist who is overwhelmed by the social and historical implications of a theme. Instead, he brings to life the essence of the material, converting the form and the meaning into light and shade, while reserving the right to a freedom of expression which is the hallmark of the true artist. With regard to his use of watercolour, Enrique Breccia is one of the finest comic strip artists working in the world, enriching and elaborating his themes in a manner which is refined, expert and technically unequalled.
